Throwback Thursdays

Lapsit Story Time (16-23 months)

Story Time aims to introduce children to the world of books and reading with fun, interactive experiences in a safe environment. Sessions can run from 30 to 45 minutes and may include stories, rhymes, songs, finger plays, playtime and a simple craft activity.

Please register at 708.795.8000 ex 3088, on our website, or in person at the Youth Services desk. Sign up begins 30 days before event. Enrollment registers you for the whole six week session. Holidays may interfere with some dates.

Open Baby Play

Play is an important part of all areas of development in a wee one. Give your baby the benefits of play in a social environment and network with other parents / caregivers in this relaxed, informal environment. For ages 5 months - 24 months; no registration required.

Stitch 'n' Time

Fiber art meets science fiction! Have you ever wanted to knit a 12 foot scarf while watching episodes of Dr. Who? Bring your knitting, crocheting, tatting or other projects to work on while we watch some classic sci-fi shows.

The Monuments Men - The Movie

Based on the true story of the greatest treasure hunt in history, The Monuments Men centers on an unlikely World War II platoon made up of art historians and museum curators, tasked with going into Germany to rescue artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves and returning them to their rightful owners. In a seemingly impossible mission, the Monuments Men, as they were called, find themselves risking their lives in a race against time to avoid the destruction of 1,000 years of culture. The film stars George Clooney, Cate Blanchett, Matt Damon, Bill Murray, John Goodman, and Jean Dujardin. Rated PG

The Monuments Men: Saving Europe's Treasures

November 15th, 2014, 2:00pm to 3:30pm
The compelling story of how art historians, museum professionals and military personnel worked to protect Europe's cultural treasures and repatriate stolen objects during and after World War II has inspired numerous books and films. This lecture presented by art historian Jeff Mishur deals with the complexity of Germany’s cultural climate in the 1930s and 1940s in order to explain why the efforts of those associated with The Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives program were so urgently needed.
