Roadside History of Illinois

February 12th, 2015, 7:00pm to 8:30pm
Stan Banash, a.k.a. “Tex,” will be here to discuss his book, Roadside History of Illinois. In his presentation, Stan describes the state’s diverse history as he guides us along its highways and byways. Did you know that Chicago was named for a wild onion, that the only president born in Illinois was Ronald Reagan, or that the ferris wheel, processed cheese, the game of softball, the fly swatter, and the automatic dishwasher were all invented by Illinoisans? You’ll hear these stories and many more in this entertaining and informative tour of the Prairie State’s historical places.

Open Board Gaming

The world of gaming goes way beyond Monopoly and Checkers. Come learn a few new games as well as play some of the old classics!

Computer Tutoring

Work on the computer skills you need to develop with an instructor present to answer questions as needed. Practice using the mouse or typing; search the internet; set-up or use email or Facebook; work on projects using Microsoft Office 2010 products.
Sessions are drop-in, on a first-come first seated basis. Seating is limited, and we encourage you to attend only once a week in order to allow time for others.
Participants are welcome to bring a laptop or tablet from home, in order to practice on their own device.

Hearing Loss

February 18th, 2015, 7:00pm to 8:30pm
Join audiologist Alison Stich, who will discuss hearing loss, tinnitus, and hearing aids. Learn about types and causes of hearing loss, as well as treatments and hearing aids. A Question and Answer session will follow the presentation.

Family Game Night

Join us for a family night of board games and puzzles. Every participant gets a free book at the end of the evening. This program is for families with children birth to 13.

STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, art, and math. Join us once a month for a fun and challenging activity. Explore physics and simple machines with “Real-life Angry Birds!” Study chemistry with “Candy Chromatography!”
