Join us for this program commemorating the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the S.S. Eastland. Terry Lynch portrays Ollie Sanders, a Western Electric employee who was an eyewitness to the disaster of the S.S. Eastland. Relive the events, aftermath, and ongoing legends that surround the sinking of the “Speed Queen of the Great Lakes” on the Chicago River on July 24, 1915. Ollie is a combined character of real eyewitness accounts of the disaster. This program is sure to be informative and thought provoking.

Ghosts of Route 66

Route 66 winds through countless communities on its way from Chicago to California. Along the way the culture of the highway includes ghostly stories and haunting legends. Route 66 also includes many ghost towns—places left behind by the changing tides of economics and alternate paths. David Clark will explore with us both the Ghost Stories and the Ghost Towns to be found along the country’s most famous highway.

Amelia Earhart’s courageous exploits and spirited personality made her an international celebrity in the early twentieth century. In this lively living-history program, meet Amelia and learn about her experiences as the first woman to cross the Atlantic by airplane (1928) and the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic (1932). She'll describe how she learned to fly, what inspired her adventurous spirit, and why she set off in 1937 for an around-the-world flight.
