The Great Chicago Fire

It started in a barn and, two days of flaming hell later, nearly destroyed a city. In The Essential Great Chicago Fire, William Pack weaves together technical details of the fire with vivid firsthand accounts from those who lived through the conflagration of 1871, bringing alive all the excitement and terror in a multi-media storytelling event that will not soon be forgotten. William Pack is an author, storyteller, and magician. This program is suitable for Adults, Teens and families with older children.

Images of Aviation: Midway Airport

Join author Dave Kent for a presentation based on his book, Images of Aviation: Midway Airport. It is the story of one square mile of land nine miles southwest of the Chicago Loop which became the world's busiest airport and the birth place of modern civilian passenger travel by air. In 2001, Kent proposed and participated in a Chicago television documentary about the airport, and in 2004 he helped found the Midway Historians, a group dedicated to sharing and preserving Midway Airport and Chicago Aviation history in stories, photographs, audio, video and live presentations.

Jim Gibbons will relook at this most tragic time in our nation’s history, November 22, 1963, the day President Kennedy was assassinated. If you were alive at that time you may remember where you were and what you were doing on that fateful day. If not, you will learn how everything came to a complete halt with just four words “The President is dead!” These were the words that riveted America. As soon as they were announced everything stopped and, for the next four days, the country was plunged into total mourning.
