Open House

To better serve the Berwyn community, the Library underwent renovations during July and August 2016 to switch the locations of the Youth Services Department and the Audio Visual Department.
You are invited to help us celebrate and dedicate!
Join us during the Open House for special guest speaker Mayor Robert Lovero and a dedication of the new Youth Services Department by Kathi Behrendt. Enjoy performances by storyteller Oba William King and a bilingual show by Berwyn’s own Planet Circus! Several Berwyn restaurants will provide us with light refreshments.

Houdini: His Life and His Legend

Relive Houdini's magic and escapes, hear the only known recording of his voice, and discover the remarkable story of his life and his death.

Christopher Columbus

Anthony E. La Piana presents a unique and fascinating look surrounding the explorations of Christopher Columbus. La Piana is known as a prominent advocate of Columbus and his achievements. He is the author of Five Centuries of Italian American History 5th edition and the curator of an educational exhibit titled "The MOVEMENT" which describes Italian American history dating from World War II to the present.

CANCELLED -- Basic Computer Skills

Work on the computer skills you need to develop with an instructor present to answer questions as needed. Practice using the mouse or typing; search the internet; set-up or use email or Facebook; work on projects using Microsoft Office 2010 products.
Sessions are drop-in, on a first-come first seated basis. Seating is limited, and we encourage you to attend only once a week in order to allow time for others.
Participants are welcome to bring a laptop or tablet from home, in order to practice on their own device.

Friends of the Library Week Author Event

In celebration of Friends of the Library Week 2016 (October 16 - 22), Geralyn Hesslau McGrady, Berwyn resident and 2016 winner of the Soon to be Famous Illinois Author contest, will read from her award-winning novel, Lines. Geralyn will share how her genealogical research evolved into the story of Livia Haas and her family’s struggles in 1870s Chicago. She will also discuss her experience as a Soon to be Famous contest participant and winner. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing by the author.

Key to Life - CANCELED

Komen Chicago will present their Key to Life program. Attendees will learn about breast health and Komen Chicago’s efforts to end breast cancer, the primary message of the program is that mammograms are critical and Early Detection is Key! Participants will make key chains that serve as a visual reminder for women to get regular mammograms.
