Welcome to Our Annual Local Authors’ Festival!

The Berwyn Public Library proudly announces the 2026 Local Authors’ Festival! Join us for two weeks of writing focused programs for all ages, including author visits, craft programs, and more. The two weeks conclude with our 5th Annual Local Authors Fair on May 16th, 2026.

Literary Word Scramble Drawing |  April 21 – May 15 | Central Service Desk
Adults

Stop by the Central Service Desk between April 21st and May 15th to grab a literary word scramble! Complete the word scramble and turn it in for a chance to win a gift card to The Pile Bookstore. Drawing for the gift card will be completed on May 16th.

Blind Date with a Local Author’s Book  |  May 1 – 17 | Reference Desk, Central Service Desk, Youth Services Desk
All Ages

Stop by the Reference Desk in the Lower Level, the Central Service Desk on the First Floor, or the Youth Services Desk on the Second Floor to pick up a surprise book to check out by a local author based on age range and genre, while supplies last!

Make & Take: Paper Woven Bookmarks  |  May 1 – 17 | Reference Desk, Central Service Desk, Youth Services Desk
All Ages

Stop by the Reference Desk in the Lower Level, the Central Service Desk on the First Floor, or the Youth Services Desk on the Second Floor to pick up your very own craft kit to make a paper woven bookmark at home, available while supplies last!

Sit, Sip & Write |  May 2 12 – 2 PM | The Local Flour Stand Cafe
All Ages

Do you need a nudge to write? Will a dedicated time to write spur you on?

Join other writers at The Local Flour Stand Cafe, 6814 Windsor Ave, for some writing time. Expect to spend about 90 minutes on your work. We will end with session with an opportunity to talk with other writers. Registration is encouraged. All ages and genres welcome.

Just Jane: A Visit with Jane Austen | May 2 2 – 3:30 PM | Community Room
Adults

Jane Austen visits with you from the autumn of 1815. Her first three novels, Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, and Mansfield Park are published, and Emma is complete. Jane visits with you at this, the most vibrant and hopeful time of her life. Drawing from her letters and novels, Debra Ann Miller’s performance delves into the personal life of one of the most beloved and intriguing novelists of the 19th century. The presentation is followed by a Question & Answer period.

Meet Author Jacqueline Alcántara! | May 5 6 – 7 PM | Community Room

Meet award-winning Chicago author and illustrator Jacqueline Alcántara! Each family will receive one free copy of her picture book, Tios and Primos!

Family Craft Night: Jar Lid Collage Magnet | May 6 6 – 7 PM | Community Room

Turn recycled jar lids into mini works of art! Create fun collage magnets while giving new life to everyday items and make a poem at the same time!

Cookbook Book Club: Cooking Demonstration with Emily Paster | May 7 6:30 – 7:45 PM | Community Room

Do you love to cook? Join us for a special meeting of Cookbook Book Club in May! Local author and culinary instructor Emily Paster will be present to give a cooking demonstration on her popular cookbook (and April Cookbook Book Club selection) Instantly Mediterranean. Capone’s Vault with William Hazelgrove | May 9 2 – 3:30 PM | Community Room

Coinciding with the 40th anniversary of the broadcast of Capone’s Vault, William Hazelgrove offers an inside look at the historic televised reveal of Al Capone’s vaults that would define Geraldo Rivera’s career and change television forever through his new book Capone’s Vault: The Real Story of the Biggest Disaster in Television History.

Come join us for an early afternoon screening of A Complete Unknown (R), based on the book Dylan Goes Electric! by Elijah Wald! Light snacks will be available while supplies last. Books & Brews (After Dark) | May 14 6:30 – 8 PM | Kinslahger Brewing Co.

Bring your TBR list – staff from the Berwyn Public Library and The Pile Bookstore will be sharing some of their book recommendations at a special edition of our popular Books & Brews program, hosted at night at Kinslahger Brewing Company! Share your favorite titles with other readers, find new books, and shop some books from Berwyn’s independent bookstore at this event. Limited space is available and registration is required. This event will be held off-site at Kinslahger Brewing Company at 6806 Roosevelt Rd, Oak Park.

Local Authors’ Fair | May 16 10 AM – 2 PM | Library Grounds
All Ages

Join us for our 4th Annual Local Authors’ Fair! Local writers for all age groups and genres will be here to meet readers, share their work and experiences, and sell their books. Come find a new favorite and connect with authors and other readers. We’ll even have special storytimes by some of the authors in attendance!
